Nsah i understand where you're coming from. Qat is haram under certain conditions like what you mentioned, lacking time with family, education, work. And if it interupts 1 of the 3 the individual should immediatly cease mastication. On one case or another there are chewers who chew just for a gathering i.e.. me. Remember Nsah there are 2 types ADDICTS & SOCIAL GATHERS. And in yemen mostly ADDICTS. They abused the drug where in the early 1900's it was chewed on special occasions.

This is my point exactly; you are now trying to make excuses in order to make HARAM flexible for you and others. Because you and others are not addicts does not make it halal. If I claimed that I only smoke maraijuana, or I only drink alcohol on special occasions/during social gatherings and I am not addicted to either one, does that make it halal, ie.not HARAM!???! NO of course not! Our "Muslim" countries are legalizing this stuff because they are addicted to it.

The very "President" of Yemen can not make it illegal because probably he's addicted to it himself! I know that there is no future for Yemenites as long as qat is around the way it is now. For God's sake, villagers are getting rid of food crops so they can grow qat! Fathers don't have enough money to buy food for their children, but they always have enough for qat.

The day ends after lunch because everyone is racing to get their qat. If you eliminated Qat, there would be a tremendous amount of positive change with the people, what we need is a movement to get rid of Qat and educate people on deen and family values.

That comment of yours leads me to believe that you chew qat on a regular basis...it shows how good your mind is

So if Qat is haram in your ways, is'nt caffeine haram, which includes, coffee, tea, soft drinks. Which i understand is that there are people dying of caffine everyday(heart problems. If you ever tried qat you would understand it is funny how people talk negative about it, the only negative about it is: they sit down for hours at a time, others even work with it to keep them moving. Nsah it is the perception that you see and hear, but not what you feel.

First and foremost Nsah is that yemen has the lowest crime rate in the world. Look at USA or UK or any other country that drink alcohol. Alcohol is an extreme problem in this society which creates problems, at least your husband isnt coming home beating you cause he's piss drunk. LIKE I SAID IT IS THE PERCEPTION YOU SEE AND HEAR, NOT FEEL
