Bianca's and my hamster, Augie, died today (coincidentally our 2 year anniversary). This is footage from when we were away this weekend - we took Augie with us so we could give her her medicine and look after her...
She made it all the way home with us, but couldn't make it up her tube to her loved "bedroom", where she always slept. She tried for a week to get up there, but we couldn't bring her up because we knew she would have trouble getting back down. When we got home, she looked as if she were in agonizing pain. She went from happy hamster, to sleepy lethargic hamster, to irritable and almost psychotic... at her last minutes, I picked her up and placed her in her bedroom, and closed the lid - a vibrant green-blue tinted plastic hinged door. She gazed up, as if remembering the colors and comfort of her habitat...and layed down to die, not 2 minutes later.
RIP Augie. We are proud to have had you, play with you, and call you our pet for so long. We are so happy you were able to go where you wanted to be to rest.
P.S. It was very interesting to see Augie hold on for so long, even though she was in so much pain...and at the moment she was placed in her bedroom, where she spent so much of her life, where she was the most comfortable and safe...she let go, as if she had to get back there first, so she could die.

I hear ya. Death is such an intriguing topic. Think about it..no one on this planet can tell us or experience what death is ultimately. Only theories, educated rationalizations, and percieved intuitiveness of live human beings exists regarding the concept of death. I was just going to make a video about death too...man how do you read my mind like that! this isnt the first time you know! great vid by the way, it says a lot

Wow...you know, people really don't know what happens after we die, no matter how much we think we believe... I have heard too many things about odd occurrences after someone dies (especially soon after) that it can't really be dismissed. Thank you for your words!

Cats die alone, ist strange but thats what they want. In that night i had a dream where she came back up stairs and crwaled into my bed as she usualy did, it was so real that i actually think this happened right after she died and it really happened.
Im sorry for your loss.

We kept having to look for her, luckily we found her. In her last day she interestigly crwaled into Ivy's (dog) bed and Ivy let her sleep there, normally those 2 always faught over that bed place. She died in her sleep and i was a sleep too when it happened. I wish i were there but know she wanted to be alone.

Man this is so sad. Lots of sad things happening latly it seems. Our pets are so much part of the family as any other member. Strangly i just wondered if robots will be loved so much as a family member too. I remember very well how and when miezi died. She looked for a place to hide for 2 weeks.

A touching tribute Jordan. Thanks for that. You did all you could mate, and made the passing as comfortable and stress-free as possible. That's what we all wish for in the end, whether hamster or human.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I think animals are just as capable as humans of having things they love, like a toy or some special surroundings like their "bedroom". When my cat died, my dad told me that almost every day while I was at school, my cat would carry around this shiny plastic flower, lay it out on the lawn, and just sit there looking at it. Something I never knew he did, it makes me remember him fondly to know he had something he enjoyed like that.
