Whistle is to be strong and clear as in the case of Yma Sumac, Lisa Fischer, and countless opera singers who use that style. To whistle incorrectly can lead to vocal damage. Mind I don't think it was wrong for her to go study, but after the success fo I love Your Smile, she was basically destined to make it. However, she tried to come back a few years later and could not catch back the momentum she left years ago.
