but you couldn't take the company further without the laborer producing your product. why is his effort and sacrifice worth so little when the CEO of the company wouldn't have a job without him?

Those european companies are enormous. Nestle is the largest food company on the planet. Why do you think those european companies are so successful when europeans work 35 hours a week and get 6 weeks vacation? should I mention the higher taxes on those companies?

right, and at some point if you want to take your company further, you have to hire people, at a price that you can afford to pay and still make your profits, and your people you hire can support themselves with.

no i don't. hat's where the labor comes in to mass sell. there are many successful people who do design and build their own products though.

For instance: 61 of the 140 biggest companies on the Global Fortune 500 rankings are European, only 50 are US companies. 14 of the 20 largest commercial banks in the world today are European. In engineering and construction, 3 of the top 5 companies are European, the other 2 are Japanese. No American engineering & construction company is included among the world's top 9 competitors. I wrote about this on my blog: nitwitplanet(dot)blogspot(dot)com/2005/02/is-america-really-greatest(dot)html

Europeans don't work 40 hours a week. They work 35. They also get an average of 6 weeks of vacation a year. And the evidence shows that Europeans are far more successful than Americans.
