Major Tom is illuminated man. SEE the cat image illuminated at 4:20 when Bowie smiles at it. "Tin can" is 10, a new cycle of man. "Time to leave the capsule" (Fr. meaning: membranous sac, placenta Earth) "Planet Earth is blue" Alchemical color of dissolution, sea and sky, chaos. Sad is blue. He lands in heaven, a mighty man. Excellent, this is Zarathustra. "Ground Control" is 'The Powers That Be' on Earth. "Feeling very still", as the riddle of a Sphinx.

A-Hawk: Allow me to offer support of old ideas of mine about this lyric. Full of subtextual symbolism here. Major Tom (a large male cat) is an arisen ascended man. "Take your protein (flesh eater) pills." "Put your helmet (mane) on." Bowie has a shock of hair. "3,2,1, ->O" Return to the beginnings, the 'O' or Sun. The Lion is a natural king, an ancient solar symbol. So is Osiris the Hawk-headed solar god, depicted with one light and one dark eye as is Bowie.

This is one of my all time favourite David Bowie songs. It's the song (along with Under Pressure) that got me into him.

I was fortunate enough to see the first 2 shows of this tour in Quebec city and Montreal, and later in Ottawa, Canada. Not his best band for sure, but any Bowie concert is unmissable for me.
