Description: Yet another source of Capital I. This one comes from the 35th Anniversary Special. It's wonderful to see so many people looking back with such strong affection for this show. Watching these gets me teary eyed. We miss you, Parn. |

rocknroller111 ::: Favorites I agree with all three of you, tanisroot, carin, and auntbecky. I was referring to the posts earlier that talked about the I being about a capitalist system and such. 07-10-13 02:44:35 __________________________________________________
bdevlin73 ::: Favorites I've always thought this song had a sad quality to it and looking at the posts I see I'm not alone. What is it about this tune that has that quality? 07-10-10 23:28:03 __________________________________________________
averyellis ::: Favorites this is a BAD ASS song! to those who said it haunted them, i feel you, i sought this song because i remember it from the seventies when i was four. god bless jim henson and the group of adults who cared enough to reach out to us kids. 07-10-10 03:55:35 __________________________________________________
auntbecky ::: Favorites And we were the kids watching it. Now, we're the parents and we want the old one back for OUR kids. 07-10-10 03:55:29 __________________________________________________
carin123deck ::: Favorites And it is the KID's that are talking. The piece was made to influence children and now after 30 or so many years they are saying that YES it did. Thats all anyone is posting. 07-10-07 10:13:06 __________________________________________________
carin123deck ::: Favorites Always drew my attention to the tv when this was played. That was when I was a kid 30 years ago. 07-10-07 10:08:49 __________________________________________________
tanisroot ::: Favorites but adults with independent minds made it. and back in the 70s it wasn't a Elmo-centric cash cow. 07-10-04 17:15:57 __________________________________________________
pixiepqueen ::: Favorites this was the best thing ever on Sesame street 07-10-02 05:38:25 __________________________________________________
rocknroller111 ::: Favorites I think some of you might be reading a little too much into this. After all, this was a KIDS show. 07-09-28 01:58:55 __________________________________________________
baritonick ::: Favorites coldwater is right. 'Capital' is the capitalist system and the I is the ego, and our individualist attitude. We feel high and mighty, doing BS work all day to look good in front of everyone, and we're happy to be working mindlessly, because that's how things get done! And despite how much we make ourselves out to be so great at the end of the day we (as a society and as individuals) shut the world out. The subversive nature of the song is also demonstrated by the sad tone of the music. 07-09-27 20:42:19 __________________________________________________ |
