Description:

The Byrds (formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1964) were an American rock band. Bridging the gap between the folk music of Bob Dylan and the hybrid pop of The Beatles, The Byrds were popular and influential through the 1960s and early 1970s. Throughout their career, they helped forge such subgenres as folk rock, space rock, raga rock, psychedelic rock, jangle pop, and -- on their 1968 album Sweetheart of the Rodeo -- country rock. After several line-up changes (with lead singer/guitarist Roger McGuinn as the only consistent member), they broke up in 1973. Some of their trademark songs include pop covers of Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" and Pete Seeger's "Turn! Turn! Turn!", and the originals "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better", and "Eight Miles High". They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and several band members have launched successful solo careers after leaving the group. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked them #45 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Here's a vitage performance of The Byrds on the Ed Sulivan Show. One of FiscaPlyder's favorite song

Roger tells the story: he saw George with the first Rickenbacker 12-string in "A Hard Day's Night", ran down to the music store the next day and ordered one for himself ( Peter Buck and Tom Petty can't thank Roger enough :>):>):>)

Is very hard for talented young people to get togther and form decent bands anymore when you have gestapo style police runing the streets with limit less power and greedy record companies. And bible thumpers trying to shove religion down our throats with guns or sticks. and leaders who act like Hitler.

Yep, they really are great lyrics....they come from the Bible, if you want to read them in their original context try looking up Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8 sometime :)

I have seen this before and have always wondered why Chris Hillman (on the bass) looks either angry or bored, or both during this performance. Either way, compared to the studio recording, his bass really only shines during Roger's solo, but is kept (forced?) to the background for the first two verses. Too bad, really.

I liked the poncho that David Crosby always wore while in The Byrds. He was really, really thin back then.
